As a member of FIRST Robotics Team 4458 since it started in 2012, I have witnessed the relationships this team has fostered; there is a strong sense of camaraderie from being on a team and competing with a product of all your long hours and hard work. To be a successful team member you have to learn how to listen to the ideas of your teammates and take advantage of their unique strengths. Of any club or sport in school FIRST teams build the most character. The backbone of this team is its members. They are the driving force behind FIRST’s initiative. Every year more and more students leave the completion with strengthened communication skills, increased conflict resolutions skills, improved problem solving abilities, and heightened time management skills. This competition is more than robots and more than winning. It is the true embodiment of progress in today’s youth.
